Welcome to "The Green Hell"

This is the first generally available version of the Nürburgring Nordschleife track (also called "The Green Hell" or simply "The Ring") for F1 2002. It is a beta version, so there are bugs! The track is VERY bumpy, too bumpy to be enjoyable with normal F1 cars. It is intended to be used with mods such as GT Racing 2002 or BPR Endurance GT.

This is NOT the SBDT version! This version has been converted from GPL by Tridon (Brad M.) of Team Redline. The SBDT version will be released later this year in conjunction with their F1 1977 mod. Their version is also based on a conversion of the GPL track, but it has less bumps and you can expect both more eye-candy and fewer bugs. Since both versions stem from GPL, the track layout should be almost identical. This beta is a good way to learn the track (there's a LOT to learn!!!) and have some fun while waiting for the SBDT release.

Download the track! Both files contain exactly the same data. The RAR file however is 5MB smaller because of a better compression algorithm. Please download only one of the files!

Updates:

1. New pit lane driving line as original line went through a wall!!!
2. New garage locations for 36 cars in standard form (50 for our upcoming Le Mans 2002 mod)
3. New pit boxes
4. New grid for up to 50 cars
5. New track extents (technical change this one - the original AIW did not have the edges of the track in the right positions!)
6. New tyre marks at all the corners which help spotting the racing line

The update requires a new SCN file, so Graham provides two versions of the patch. One for the original SCN and one for the update from Saxe (see above). Most people will want to use the latter because it includes working mirrors!

This patch adds multitexturing, making the road look better. You need to have Graham Milne's starting lights patch installed before you install this update.

Known bugs, after above patches have been applied (2003-05-08):

Pitting does not work for F1 cars. It supposedly works well for both GTR and BPR cars.
It is fairly easy to jump over the fence surrounding the track by accident. Once on the wrong side of the fence, getting back on the track is either difficult or impossible depending on where you are.
Fuel consumption is not tweaked for any particular mod. Before running a race please verify how much fuel your car consumes. The McLaren F1 in BPR needs around 21 liters/lap. The Viper in GT Racing 2002 needs around 14 liters/lap.
It is possible to drive through the Bridgestone ad after the second curve.
There are MANY graphical glitches!
